On White

On Sunday I had planned to do some weeding, but got side tracked when I spied an old sheet of white paper and a gold foil in my sun studio.

Can one be a full time dreamer?

I asked myself at the end of last year, and have to say - yes one can and one should. The last six month have been a little dream come true. I had time to take lots of photos, start a blog, finish my website and have an exhibition with a new series. The exhibition opened last friday and I am actually happy with the result. A week before the opening I changed my plan completely in regards to framing and designed a wall, hoping to invite people to get closer and explore the different sizes of the book landscapes. The day before the opening I got very nervous if my image would hold up against the other 8 photographers, as this series looks rather soft + fragile... but I think they did ok. Phew. Now that the first half of the year is over, I have once again way too many ideas and plans, but have to constantly remind myself to continue to have the courage to dream. For the last couple of weeks I have been going to the School of Botany - University of Melbourne Herbarium, to look through their amazing collection of specimens. Cant ask for more: amazing specimens + old paper and amazing hand writing.

Longing

Who doesn't love airports? Apart from the over priced food and bad coffee... I simply adore them because we either get to go on adventure, pick up some great friends (others aren't really worth picking up) or watch people meet again after a long absence. A couple of years ago I got in contact with a few people from Melbourne Airport and asked if I could document comings and goings. They told me if I manage to get a photography grant I might, but I never finished writing that application as Australia hardly fund the arts.... So, last year I was almost arrested in Melbourne for taking some pictures at the airport, and then again, no one seemed to mind this time.... strange blurry little world.

Horizon

I wish I could go more often on holidays or be able to fly just to continue taking these images. I like it that you dont really know exactly what is - you are seeing.

Wegweiser

I have been trying to photograph the Australian bush for a while now. I find it "too messy" just too much going on.... and the light is harsh and too white. I absolutely enjoy going bush walking, but when it comes to photographing forests I find the European/Japanese much calmer. So this time instead of concentrating on the bush I started to look forward to photographing my way.... I feel these images leave my walk up to the imagination of what it looked like, without giving evberything away, ie, where I was heading, if I was going or coming.... Some walks are hard to follow and even harder to find your way back. I remember last year, I am sure we wouldn't have been able to make our way back without pink little ribbons around the trees, as we were in full jungle land and it all started to look a bit the same after 7 hours.

Water

Whilst up north I was very inspired by all the water we saw. I find these images very calming and can see that maybe a new series will start from here, but first things first.... at the moment my to do list seems to get longer and longer by the day.... Ohh and you couldn't really swim in these waters as there could have been some crocodiles around.

Upside down

What can I say. I absolutely loved our holiday and we really enjoyed the 30 degrees everyday. We swam in waterholes, drank rainbowed water, walked to far away places and were offered fresh Barramundi on our wedding anniversary. I couldn't have asked for anything else other for it to last maybe a week longer. I absolutely love lying on my back and staring at the clouds, tress etc... I find them very calming this way and I also enjoy taking my photos this way. I hope to have enough time over the next few weeks to organise my new images from this trip and show them here. The ones on film will take me probably forever to scan again, but I am so please with them. My new camera is great, but after the 5th day I mainly took my beloved Hasselblad with me on our hiking trips.

Dreaming of warmer weather

In a couple days I will escape the cold weather in Melbourne and head to Darwin and lovely 30 degrees. But before I go I thought I let you know that I have finished my new website TALES OF LIGHT.

Blurry all the way

Last week I finally bought a digital camera and have been exploring the digital age. It was not an easy transition, but I am slowly getting used to my new camera. As you might have noticed, I love taking blurry photos. I remember when I bought my Hasselblad... I took a lot of blurry photos and after I showed them to my brother, he only asked my why I spent so much money on my camera if only take blurry photos. It made me giggle to no end - and I love him for it. Well these are the first test to test how blurry this camera can go.

DELICATE SHADOWS

I have been collecting dried plants and flowers for a while now and the pile is getting bigger and bigger. Ohh so many ideas but... ohh soo little time. So whenever there was a bit of sun, I sneaked into the backyard and arranged my little treasures waiting for delicate shadows to appear. Now in my etsy store.

Slowly slowly

At the end of last year I decided it is time to dedicate more time to photography. I said no to a job in Germany, so I would have more time to play and realise some photographic ideas. I have to confess it is not the best climate to say no to a job, especially in design, but I think it has paid off. I am rather excited as I have found out last week, that I was excepted to be part of a group exhibition (9 photographers myself included) and the show will be held at the Brusnwick Street Gallery from the 31st of July to the 13th of August. I will be showing some of my work on old books. I took these with a digital camera I borrowed from a friend, but am thinking of re shooting them on film, so I can enlarge a couple. Which brings me to my big dilemma. Over the last few years I have constantly said no to digital as I was more than happy with my 35mm and Hasselblad, but the new 5d MarkII looks rather tempting I have to confess, for the last few weeks I have gone yes no yes yes no and still undecided. I do a lot of macro work and have not been able to find the perfect lens, hence I think I might stick with film. I always thought I will stick with film, but the convenience of digital is sometimes overwhelming. Would love to hear from you what cameras you are using.

When I look up

In February I started to photograph the sky on a daily basis. I am a day dreamer, so I often look up at the sky, but I was interested to see the hues collected over the year. When it is sunny for a while, we feel like it has been sunny forever. The same goes if it rains (unfortunately not enough here), if it rains for 2 days we feel like it has always been like that. But looking up every day makes me realise how often it changes and how quickly. One of these days I will sit there all day with my camera and take a photo of the constantly changing hues every 5 minutes :)
